SEASON WRAP

LEAGUE

For the league side it was dissapointing year after promising so much. The club kept all players from the 2008 season and recruited very heavilly and in the first round the club put a very strong side on the park. Th recruitment of 7  time premiership coach Mick Thorne from Kenwick to join the coaching panel was seen as a major achievement for the club with the players that he was able to bring. Unfortunately recruiting players and getting them to gell in a team invironment is easir said than done . After close losses to Dianella and East Fremantle early in the season and a good win over top side Ellenbrook some bad injuries a few players losing interest and lack of commitment saw the season grind away to dissapointing end.

Desite the bad end to the season the club had a great core of players that stuck togther and saw the seasn out. Captain Simon Davis showed fantastic leadership throughout the season and helped mould a tightnit group of players twho stuck togther trough thick and thin. Matt Smart had a great season culminating with a few games at East Perth and he will do the pre season at East Perth. Shaun Mckenzie , Grant Speldewinde , Kris Mihal , Bernard Nolan , Corey Kelly, Brandon Lee, Matt Conduit and Col Narr were also plays to show alot when the club needed them.

The club had a great core group of players at the club and if this group can stick together over the off season and into next year then there are big things ahead for the club .

 RESERVES

The 2009 seasson was a season of near misses for the reserves with a few lose losses near the end of the year saw the side miss out on the finals by a game. The draw against Kingsley whent he scoreboard showed that we had won was also costly. Other losses to St Norberts by 3 points and to Canning were costly. Tom Dhuong , Anthony Vu , Fabian Logan , Alex Spiroki, and Leroy Riley were great players for the team while Cam Lee, Alex Harris, Justin Wainwright and Murray Wynne were great leaders while the club had a great bunch player who contibuted greatly to the club . These players included. Paul ,Chimpy, Ellis ,Darren Macauley , Chris and Anthony Mearnes, Geoff Kerrigan , Liam Maher , Corey Findlay and Rick Tennant

The great thing about the reserves was that a solid group of players stuck together throughout out the season and if these players can stick together then the reserves and the club has a great platfom to build for next season.

MANNING TOO GOOD IN BOTH GRADES

The Manning Rippers came to Hillcrest Reserve as the top side in both grades but unfortunately for the Blues 2 weeks after dethroning the last club to venture to Hillcrest as the top side we could not dethrone the Rippers.

The reserves fielded close to our top side for the year and in contrast to the week before at Southern River when we were short of players at the start we had 6 players miss out because of an excess of numbers. The Rippers jumped the Blues early and were never headed and despite good effrots from Buddy Narrier, Corey Findlay , Corey Ranger Murray Wynne and Rob Bourke who dominated in the ruckk the Blues last heavely. The loss puts the side down to 5 th spot.

The league also fielded what on paper looked to be our strongest side for the year and in the first half matched it with the Rippers in what was a very physical game.

Big Damien Stack was providing a huge presence in the ruck and was starting stamp his authority on the game until midway through the 3rd term when he was sent of . Monty was also sent off leaving the side with 16 players allowing the Rippers to kicke away to win. Good players for Bayswater were Seru , Matt Smart , Jeremy Ryder , Shane Phillips , Steve Boundry and Kym Mclean.

MIXED RESULTS AT SOUTHERN RIVER

The club travelled to Southern River and the away game curse hit the club with a number of players not showing for the game. The reserves did well to record a 5 goal victory after starting the game short with several players coming late. Good players for the ressies were Justin Wainright, Mark Woods who kicked 10 goals, Cam Lee, Corey Kelly and Fabian Logan.

The league started very slowly to trail by 5 goals at the first change but got back into the game at half time but could sustain the effort in the second half.  Matt Smart was again a great player moving into the ruck while others to play well were , Jeremy Ryder, Mark Woods , Matt Conduit and Shaun Mckenzie.

BAYSWATER  DEFEAT TOP SIDE ELLENBROOK IN BOTH GRADES

The Blues came from 5 goals down against top side Ellenbrook to get over the line by 3 points in a thrilling game at Hillcrest. The game was tight for the first half until the Eels kicked away in the 3rd term to take a 5 goal lead at 3/4 time. With Steve Garlett ,Simon Davis , Mick Alone and Shane Phillips playing well the Blues gained the momentum in the last term to get a well earned victory. Others to play well were Mark Woods , Steve Boundary and Matt Conduit. The win hopefully will set up a resrgence for the league over the next few weeks.

The Reserves also recorded a great win over the top side Ellenbrook and move into the top five. Ellenbrook kicked away in the first quarter to lead by five goals and maintained that lead at half time. In the second half with Corey Findlay , Brandon Lee , Suru , Dylon , and Boomer playing well the Blues finally overwhelmed the Eels to run away 5 goal winners to move into the five.

LATEST NEWS

SHATTERING LOSS FINISHES SEASON

The Leagues side season ended with a shattering loss to to Kenwick in the 1st Semi final at Thornlie Oval. The suddden loss left a bitter taste at the club in a season that promised so much and so much was expected that the loss left many players ,support staff ,supporters and the coaching staff shattered.

Bayswater jumped out the blocks early in the first term to lead by 3 goals at 1/4 time but the Royals hit back in the second and third terms and by the last term the game was over. A 52 pssesion game from Kenwicks Nocky proved to be the difference in the game as Bayswater just had no answer to his brilliance. Many players tried hard with Tristian Micheal among the best but many players were down on form. Mick Alone played for us over  Subiaco but was way down on form as were many other key players though all tried hard things just did not go our way on the day,

Coach Peter Zelesco was at loss for words to describe the loss and it is a loss that will take a few weeks to get over .

TOMMY WYNNE TAKES  OUT BEAVER MEDAL

Tommy Wynne won the WAFA fairest and best award the Beaver Medal last wed night in the Association Vote count at Subiaco Football Club . Tommy won with 20 votes in a tie with Kenwicks Darryl Lea King. Shawn Colbung was next best for Bayswater with 10 votes while Steve Boundry got 9 votes.

Sharon Shreesby also won the WAFA trainer of the year award for the club which again reafirms the strong support staff that the club has for the players which would be one of the strongest support staffs in Community Fottball with the club having 2 ttrainers ,Matt Frame, dedicated water girls, strong coaching panel and off field supporters gives the team a great support off field and this is another reason for the clubs success this season.

GALLANT LOSS IN QUALIFYING FINAL TO ROLEYSTONE

The Qualifying final at Thornlie Oval was played at a blistering pace with The Blues jumping Roley to take a first quarter lead by 2 goals in front of a big crowd. Tommy Wynne was again in imperious form as was Shawn Colbung and Matt Smart. The Tigers hit back in the second term to take control of the match and go into the long break 3 goal leaders. With Simon Davis and Monty standing firm in defence and Murray Wynne having an influence in the ruck Baysie hit back in the third term to go into the third quater break trailing by only 9 points . With Tristian Narrier playing well and Justin Wainwright tagging Roleys main playmaker the game was in the balance in the last term. With the big crowd willing Bayswater on the boys rallied but Roleystone stood frim to run out 3 goal victors.

Coach Peter Zelesco was pleased with the effort considering that we had 5 of our leading players out injured and hopefully we will get at least three of them, Mick Alone,Steve Boundry and Paul Rundle, back for this weeks cutthroat Semi against Kenwick.

RESERVES

The ressies finished the season with a 5 goal loss at home to Murdoch . the win was Murdochs first for the season which was indicitive of the reserves season. beating the top two sides and then losing to the bottom side . The reserves are hit hardest but the clubs long injury list and it was a great effort by the side as the reserves play a big part inkeeping the league side strong.

Mal Benson was best a field for the Blues against Murdoch kicking 7 of the teams 9 goals while Tristina healy was a rock in defence. Alex Spiroski was again brilliant while others to play well were Clint Langdon, Matt Frame and Ron Cox.

ROUND 18  9 GOAL WIN OVER ROSSMOYNE

The Blues set sail for the finals with a good warm up win over Rossmoyne at Hillcrest last Saturday. Coach peter Zelesco stressed that players needed to fin form with finals approaching and though it took 2 and a half quarters the boys clicked into gear witha 9 goal last quarter. Tommy Wynne was again in good touch with support from Shawn Colbung while Shane Phillips was supreme in defence. Simon Davis has been a great captain this year and has lead from the front right from the start of the year and agian showed his captain qualities with a tremendous game in defence while Monty Noble was great in support. graham farrell finally came into his own and coninued his improvement with a solid game from the wing.

Ruckman Murray Wyne is a player who gives his all and again  this was on display while he received great support from up and coming Mick Beniak. The form shown was a good warm up for the finals. The finals will start this week with the qualifying final at Thornlie Reserve at 1.30 versus Roleystone.

 RESERVES

The clubs long injury list has severley affected the ressies and 2 big losses to Osbourne Park and warwick over the last two weeks reflected this. We beat Warwick by 15 goals earlier in the season but got a flogging last Sunday. Alecs Spiroski and Adam Rush were galant in defence but unfortunately did not not have much back . These 2 big losses have seen the teams fianls hopes finished. Other players to play well over the last few weeks have been Clint Langdon ,Fabian Logan , Matt frame , Duran Haynes and Darren Cox. The reserves main job for this year has been to provide players for the top side when they needed them and with players like Graham Farrell, Mal Hedland, Clint Yarren, Rob Bourke and fabian Logan going up to help the top side when needed because of injuries in the last few weeks .

ROUND 17

CLOSE LOSS TO KENWICK

The Mills Park Hoodoo continued for Bayswater with a 3 goal loss to The Royals. Injuries early in the game to Steve Boundry , Peter Zelesco and Shane Phillips and then Paul Rundle saw the Blues down to the bare mininmun players at the end of the game and this impacted on the boys attempts to come from behind to defeat Kenwick. Tommy Wynne was again brilliant as was Matt Smart and Graham Farrell as we went down by 3 goals. With third spot and the double chance already sown up it is hard to play out the last few games with the eye firmly on the Qualifying final showdown with Roleystone in a few weeks.

The Reserves ventured to Robinson Reserve but with a unfortunaletly went down by a big margin to Osbourne Park in a game the ended any finals hopes we had. Injuries impact the most on the reserves and this was shown with team playing with the bare minimun of 18 players.

ROUND 15 CLOSE WIN OVER SOUTHERN RIVER

Former South fremantle player showed his absolute worth to the Blues with an imperious display of run on football in Bayswaters 2 goal win over a determined River who were playing for their place in the finals. Big ruckman Mikolj beniak also showed his worth to the side with a dominant display.  Tristaian Micheal was also brilliant as was Shawny, Shane Phillips and wingman Matt Smart who got Southern Rivers  award after the game.

In the reserves game Baysie were just not good enough for Innaloo despite big games from Steve Boundry, Rob Bourke, Alecs Spiroski and Reece Millar. The loss put the boys outside the four and we now face some big games to try and get back into the finals race.

ROUND 14 JULY 12 League

BLUES BEAT FORRESTDALE BY 20 GOALS

Bayswater fronted up to Forrestdale at Hillcrest Oval keen for a big win to get back to the top of the ladder. An 11 goal first quarter looked like to be the catalyst for a massive percentage boosting victory. The second term saw the Falcons to their credit fight back to only trail by 8 goals at half time. Steve Boundary had 7 goals to half time while Shawn Colbung and Tommy Wynne had 4 goals. The midfield was dominating with Matty Smart , Mick Alone and Leroy doing well while down back Monty and Shane Phillips were holding up well. The second half saw the Blues run away with the game to win well and improve our percentage. Other good performances came from Barry Woodley in his first game back for the season and big Rod Cox who is slowly starting to show some much needed form at full forward. Rod will be needed as the finals come around.

The next few weeks will be cruicial for the club with a danger away game against Southern River followed by a home game against Koonga. Top spot is up for grabs .

Thunder go down in 1st semi final

The Thunder put up a brave effort in the first semi final but were unlucky to go down by 21 points at Fremantle Oval.

The game started well with the first goal to Fiona Boucher  but the Dockers finished the first term 5 points. The Dockers went further ahead in the 2nd term despite good efforts from Kris Teale , Emily Farrel and Melissa Headland. At half time Melville lead by 3 goals which in the wet was a match winning lead. The lead was streched to 4 goals at 3/4 time. In the last quarter The Thunder came alive with 3 goals to narrow the margin to 8 poits with about 10 minutes to go. Melville then settled and kicked away to by 21 points. It was a great effort by the Thunder .

Big win by Thunder

The Thunder have well and truely cemented there spot in the finals over the last few weeks with some great performances. A thrilling win over 3rd spot team Melville saw the Girls become serious premieship contenders . Fiona Boucher, Emaa Farrell, Tracey Schimdt and Kristan Teale and Fridge were all good players in the 2 point victory .

Against second side Hawks at Hillcrest the girls were down key players through injury and still put a credible performance to go down by 4 goals that would have had top side the Coastal Titans take notice. Jodie played well off the wing while backliners Macca and the Fridge kept it tight while others to play well were Coby Perace, Mellissa Headland and Annie.

The Thunder pumped Innaloo by 6 goals at Gosnells Oval and this week should chalk up some winning form when we play bottom side Safety Bay.

League

Two heartbreaking losses in a row

Two narrow losses to finals contenders in is many weeks has seen the clubs finals chances now in jeapody. This now makes it 6 games by around a goal that we have lost this season. Narrow losses hurt the team and then the last 2 games saw bad losses to Southern River and Nollamara to finish the season just outside the finals.

Round 13 July 15

The Blues ventured out to Forrestdale needing to win to get back into the finals hunt. As usual a couple of late pullouts hampered the side.  With Lazza  a revelation in the ruck and dominating the hit outs the Blues were able to take an early lead. Murray Raynour and Steve Cox where good in the midfield as was Tristian Micheal while Rod Cox was again reliable up forward with Shane Phillips showing imptoved form in the backline.

Bayswater led narrowly going into the last term in fron t of Forrestdales huge ferral crowd who were starting to ark up after a few incidents . When Rod Cox hit bange home a goal with minutes remaining we were 7 points in front. Forrestdale bounced back and scored twice in the closing stages of the game to get up by 4 points and almost ruin our finals chances as we must now rely on other sides losing to make it.

Round 12 July 8

The club played against 19 men against Roleystone with the Tigers bringing their own umpire who made sure that when the game was looking lost for Roleystone he gave them 7 free kicks in a row late in the last term and sent of our captain Rod Cox which was enough to get his side over the line. The Blues where steaming home and hit the front with 5 minutes to go. when the Roley ump struck.  Coxy kicked 6 goals for the game and was ably supported by Rory Pearce who was tough in the clinches, Shane Phillips , Steve Rule and Tristian Micheal who gave the side drive out of the middle.

Mustangs win by last kick of the day

Round 6 The Mustangs got their revenge from last years Qualifying final by defeat us with the last kick of the day. Bayswater opened up with an 8 goal burts in the first term with big Rod Cox and Shane Phillips providing sure avenue for attack up forward. The los of rugged midfielder to injury in the 2nd term was a blow to the Blue as the Mustangs clawed their way back into the game. With Barry Woodley and Chris Walsh providing drive in the midfield Bayswater went into the last term still 4 goals up. The Mustangs kept coming and when the final siren went were 2 points down. A goal after the siren from 50 metres out gave the Mustangs a narrow 4 pt win. Others to play well for Bayswater were Adam Rush, Josh Kickett, Jade Masters and Jeff Srhoj.

Round 7 Saw us take on reigning premiers Kenwick at Kenwick. The club fielded an under strenghth side with over 13 players out throuugh injury. Kenwick were far too good on the day and won well. Chris Walsh ,Russ Challis, Barry Woodley and Rod Cox played well for Bayswater.

Round 8 We travelled to Thornlie with another understrength side with 15 first choice players in what is a horror stretch with injuries. Thornlie started well and we were playing catch up football after that. A great last term fight back saw The Blues get within 7 points of the Lions. The Lions settled and won by 4 goals. Rod Cox was BOG while Chad Harris went well in the ruck. Others to play well were Steve Cox, Shane Phillips and Joe Young.

The side has a far easier run home with 5 out of 8 games at home and 6 of those 8 games against sides outside the 8.

Reserves battle on despite horror injury run

Mal Colemans reserves are battling on in the strong Mercantile League and are still yet to win a game. The clubs horror run with injuries is not helping with over 18 players unavaiable last week not helping the reserves cause.Good players in the losses to Kwinana and Cockburn were Tristan Iriks, Matt Framel, , Duran Haynes and Craig Cox. Mal is doing a great job as coach in difficult circumstances.

Thunder Girls score 2 wins in a row

The Southern Thunder have scored two wins in a row after a run of 3 losses. The 2 wins take the girls to 4 wins and puts them 3 games clear in 4th spot. The Girlss have recovered well after the resignation of coach Norm and the coaching duties are being shared amongst the Girls. The win over Safety Bay was significant as the girls won by 20 goals. Good players have been Tracey Schmidt, Prisilla Harry  , Kris Teale ,Jodie and Helen Wheeler. As with the mens teams injuries have not helped . The 2 week bye for the State break has come at a good time for the team.

The round 10 clash against top side The Coastal Titans saw the Thunder go down by 9 goals. Not a bad effort with the teams injury problems against the unbeaten top side. Best players were Amy Farrell , Melissa Headland ,Tracey Schmidt and Fiona Boucher in her first game back from a broken thumb

ROUND 5

LEAGUE WIN BY 29 GOALS

The League side recorded the clubs biggest win in a few years with 28 goal drubbing of Nollamara in the Clayton Fyfe memorial game on the weekend.  The side kicked the first 8 goals of the game and never looked back. Rod Cox was brilliant up forwrd with 10 goals while Tristian Micheal, Rory Pearce., Barry Woodley and Chris Walsh were unstoppable in the midfield. Beside Cox other forwards to fire were Ash Parfitt, Shane Phillips and Adma Rush while Aaron Tompkinson was a tower of strength in the ruck.

After the game there were joint presentations with the Nollamara Football club were Claytons family , his wife Mary and his 2 young sons , were presented with a signed premiership jumper worn by Clayton in the 2000 Nollamara premiership while the Bayswater Football Club presented Claytons young son the F and B trophy won by Clayton last year. The Bayswater Football Club and the Nollamara Football Club will now play for the Clayton Fyfe sheild every time we meet.

RESERVES ALMOST SCORE FIRST WIN

In front of a big crowd at Hillcrest the clubs reserves almost scored their first win of the season after leading all day but going down by 5 to Greenwood. There was a big crowd because of the womens football having been played earlier.  Russ Stack , Tristan Iriks , Fabian Logan and Craig Underwood were good players for the Blues . The game was a huge improvement on the week before and shows that the team is not far away from a victory.

THUNDER GIRLS GIVE MELVILLE A RUN

The Southern Thunder gave Melville a good run for their money before going down by 5 goals. The game was close for most of the game before the Dockers ran away inthe last term. Good players for the Thunder were Mitta , Tracey Schmidt , Helen Wheeler and Kristan Teale. The team is on the improve after 2 wins in a row.

ROUND 2

Big win to League in Anzac Game

The League side recorded a big 7 goal win over Ellenbrook in the Anzac Day game last Saturday. The day started with a full Anzac service put on by the Ellenbrook Football Club.

The side bounced out of the blocks and had the first 6 goals on the board before Ellenbrook had scored. With Shane Phillips kicking 6 goals up forward along with Rod Cox also providing an avenue for attack. In the midfield Russ Stack, Chis Walsh and Leo Kelly were dominant while down in the back line Dan Lilley, Russ Challis and Ryan Narkle stood firm.

The Eels came back in the last term to within 3 goals in the last term before the Blue steadied and ran away with the game. Coach Peter Zelesco was pleased with the result. The final score was Bayswater 12.13 def Ellenbrook 7.11

Reserves go down

The reserves lost their first game of the season in the clash against Innaloo at Hillcrest on Sunday. Innaloo scored the first 5 goals and led throughout the game. Best for Bayswater were Craig Cox , Andrew Kennedy and Adam Mitchell. Coach Mal Coleman was also pleased with the result despite the loss and was sure the team would improve in the coming weeks.

Womens team win by 10 goals

The clubs womens team The Southern Thunder got up to record their first victory of the year with a big 10 goal win over Innaloo at Gosnells Oval. The girls have now won 1 game out of 3 and are on the improve with many new players joining the team.
